Finkelstein’s previous works laid bare the politics driving Israel’s military assaults on Gaza while forensically debunking their apologists.
Since October 7, he has been one of the most prominent voices decrying Israel’s genocide and analysing its historic as well as ethical meaning.
In his explosive new book, Gaza’s Gravediggers: An Inquiry into Corruption in High Places, Finkelstein trains his critical eye on the most influential arguments defending Israel’s genocide and systematically dismantles them.
In the process, he exposes how a United Nations special representative lent credence to an Israeli smear campaign, how judges on the world’s highest court perverted the law in Israel’s defence, and how even Israel’s severe critics colluded in misrepresenting genocide as a war.
The book’s purpose, Finkelstein writes, is to put officials in the highest places on notice:
“You cannot mangle Truth and traduce Justice with impunity. You cannot go your merry way after besmirching your calling and betraying your mandate. It will not be forgotten, it will no longer be business as usual, if you choose to do the Devil’s work.”
